About Me

     Zinnia Maldonado is a junior at The Pennsylvania State University, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is studying Broadcast Journalism and Digital Media Trends and Analytics. She has a strong interest in researching, investigating, reporting, and data analytics. She plans on pursuing a career in the media industry upon graduation.

     As a Penn State student, Zinnia has had many opportunities to work on her craft. She was a reporter for PSN-News were she co-anchored the daily news broadcast, wrote scripts on local and international news, and conducted live interviews. She hosted a PSN-TV show, called Hollywood Now. Additionally, she was a reporter for 46-Live, a forty-six-hour live stream covering THON weekend. She interviewed THON dancers, organizations, and families. She hosted various segments throughout the broadcast and utilized 46-Live social media to promote event coverage. Zinnia also served as the diversity news reporter for the Daily Collegian.

     Zinnia spent the past three summers interning at the NBC-10 news station. For two summers she interned with the Digital Team where she was able to write articles for the NBC-10 website. She also copy-edited Associated Press articles and shadowed reporters on the field. Most importantly, she learned the tools needed to run a successful news site. This past summer, Zinnia interned with the investigators unit at NBC-10 where she worked one-on-one with reporters and producers. She created databases for two ongoing investigation cases and filed FOIA, Right to Know, and OPRA Requests.

            In addition to her professional interests, Zinnia loves to broaden her reporter mindset by traveling internationally. So far, she has explored Barcelona, Tokyo, and Osaka.
